Morty Tompkins Oct. 25-30, 2003
NASSAU PRAYER CLINIC & CONCERT. I ARRIVED IN NASSAU ON SAT., OCT. 25, 2003 AT 3 P.M. After settling into our quarters and eating, I attended a Jamaican charity meeting at the Anglican Holy Cross church. I was well received and sang two numbers for them, as well as telling them why I was in Nassau. The fellowship was good.
On Sunday morning I spoke and sang at a small church in a ghetto area (Bro. Rolle's congregation). I spoke on JESUS, THE WORD! There were as many people outside listening as there were inside listening.
It went well. As I looked around I could s
ee the need was great. God help us to help them.
In the afternoon I attended a 3:15 p.m. meeting at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. I met and listened to various preachers from Different denominations; and a parliamentary officer who was very interesting. The preaching and singing was great and before we knew it, it was 6 p.m.
That evening we were at Cornerstone Zion Church (Bro. Steward's congregation) holding a Prayer Clinic. It went well lasting about 1 1/2 hours, with about 30 in attendance.
On Monday evening I held an 1 1/2 hour Prayer clinic with about 40 in attendance. The prayer booklet I had made up for them was more than well received. They were hungering and thirsting to learn;
especially the younger preachers. It was as if they had never received anything like this before. Their excitement was evident.
Tuesday was much the same, with about 40--50 attending. On both evenings there was a translator for the Haitian people. They were wonderful and it was surprising how much they wanted to learn. The
younger ones were very studious (especially the younger preachers) and I told them I would finalize a prayer booklet soon and would see that they received copies. They were very excited.
Wednesday night was concert night. The meeting lasted for 2 hours and I thought the roof would come off with all the excitement. There were Amens!, shouts for joy, a bit of dancing, with smiles and
tears from many for our Lord.
I saw some from the streets on the front porch wondering what was going on. There were about 60 in attendance and it ended with hugs and hand shakes as well as kisses, and they made me promise to come back.
I feel we accomplished everything we set out to do and more. The opportunities for the future abound and with out eyes on Christ, I believe it's almost miraculous as to what can be done. If God will
allow me to do so, I hope to be a small part of it.
In Christ,
Bro. Morty Tompkins.
(PS Grove Park, Lakeland, FL missions is underwriting Morty's return to Nassau early next year joining Jim Book at the annual convention. Some needed songbooks, Bibles, and VCRs are going down with them. Harold Armstrong, FL Christian College will conduct next college sessions Mar. 28-31, 2004)
God bless,
