Subject: Training Program
Richard
I wrote a long note yesterday and when I started to make attachments it disappeared into oblivion. I hope this one is finished.
The two pictures are recent. One is Joey Torres, one of our students, teaching one of the classes on Saturday night. The other is a group picture of the teachers and students about two weeks ago.
We started the college level classes in Nov 1, 2001. That was about 2 weeks after I saw you at the airport in Tulsa OK after the convention.
Although Juan Polanco and I had been trying to start these classes for a while, there seemed to be always something coming up to postpone them. After you and I discussed many items at the airport and with your encouragement and "push" I came back to PR deciding not to let anything stop the training program.
Juan Polanco is the person most in charge of the congregation at Parkville PR. That is the congregation that Burton started back in 1967 or 8. That is also the congregation that I came t0 when I left NYC and also where Willy and others came and stayed till they left to various places in the States.
Juan and I, as well as some of the men there, have a very good working relationship and they are truly men of encouragement and given to the Word. We have been having classes since that Nov. every Sat night with the exception of about 3 nights that some of the teachers were out on vacation or summer schedule. This November we discussed and began to implement a program of three month classes (which may be stretched to 6 months or increments of 13 weeks if need be depending on the course).
We started out with 7 students and 3 teachers; we now have the 3 Teachers and 4 or 5 students that are there all of the time. Joey Torres is from Vega Baja church. That is the church that I started in 1974; and where Burton returned in 1981 to help develop a better printing and publishing program.
I may state that when Burton returned to PR he almost immediately began a regular weekly training progran while traveling back and forth from Parkville to Vega Baja.
Anyway, this may be too much of a history and we can discuss later. The main item that I want to convey to you is that I appreciate and thank you very much for the extra needed push in order to get these classes rolling again.
Thanks also for your push to develop the publishing. At the moment we are working on finishing the one chart and the two others that WIlly sent. We are also working on the corrections for the History chart which is being used in Cuba. Reprinted and revised is Gary Strubbhar's book called "ESCOJA LA VIDA" (Life Choice). That was just printed and a corrected version is to follow immediately because it also will be going to Cuba.
Most recent, the church at Ft Lauderdale (where my daughter Angeline is) donated a Riso press for the work. We are shipping that to Haverstraw, NY. where Willy's sister-in-law and her husband are working. Russell Driver is establishing some printing work and will help us with the overflow. He and I are always in communication and he has been a help to us throughout the years.
Some items are delayed due to resources and personnel. I appreciate your continued help. Should you be able to present our work to your workers, it would be grand.
God bless you as you continue to work for Jesus.
En Cristo
