REPORT TO JAMAICA CHRISTIAN MISSION. NOV. 1, 2002
Dear Brethren,
I have recently met with Winston Scott and Randal Craig concerning utilizing the current men’s bunk house and painting, tiling and converting it into a permanent class room. Cost approx. $2000 with ceiling fans. That way for 11 months we can be set up nicely and only have to break down for July Camp. On the outside wall facing the parking lot we desire to have a sign painted: “JAMAICA BIBLE SEMINARY” (formerly Jamaica Christian College), Established 1945. Include the current Bible & Cross logo going on new church signs.
Also I request Winston Scott to teach at Bahamas Bible College the week of Oct. 20-25, 2003, probably flying in the Saturday before, preaching Sunday and running 3- 2 hr. classes Monday thru Wed. and flying home on Thur. This will be a leadership class with approx 23 students. Airfare cost will be covered by Grove Park Christian Church Missions. The Bahamas churches will cover housing and food.
We just gained a large supporting church in Pennsylvania and received $1,000 which I deposited and I had the bank cut me a Cashier’s check to Jamaica Christian Mission for the same amount which I will give to Randal or Winston to begin renovation on the aforementioned building. This will bring the college to the next level with the proposal of having funds available for gas and travel expense for Jamaican leaders to conduct full time day or evening classes or both. Also more materials will be needed and students will be expected to pay more tuition to help in these additional expenses but that goes with the territory. The more offered, the more it costs. I also gave Winston $500 for scholarships and to cover lawyer fees on the name change and maybe some cricket equipment.
Jim Book and Mike Manley have been working on our tax exempt papers and the official name for the Jamaica Christian College will be Jamaica Christian Services, Inc. and the college will be a ministry of such. This makes the difference in $700-800 annual fees versus $70-80 annual fees.
We can no longer use Zephyrhill’s mailing permit as the post office is getting cranky with all the emailers taking away their retirement. We asked Darrell Combs to investigate Mission Services and their ability to produce in full color with their new press.
June 2002 classes brought Byron Elrod from Colo. with us teaching Inter-testament History and I played “Indiana Jones” and led the guys in an archaeological dig where each man received an Alexander Jannaeus widow’s mite (2000 yrs. Old) as well as a Bible lands lamp to restore plus two handsful of various and sundry other artifacts. We had 7-11 students. We loaned Byron to Dennis Herko to wire some buildings at Old Harbour for a day. Byron was a licensed electrician and he worked with Dennis’ work team.
August 2002 brought Dan Smith from Iowa with 4 regularly attending students for an Advanced Life of Christ class. Randal requests for him to return in the future with an Elder’s and Deacons class in leadership for the local church. This may be Aug. 2004.
Nov. 2002, Chuck Terrill from KS will be teaching Penteteuch, expecting 3 new students in addition to last term.
The next 4 classes are tentatively: Feb. 24-28, 2003 Winston Scott/Alan Detwiler on counselling. Alan’s daughter is a tremendous singer and we’ve promised her a chance to sing at the Jamboree. Also Alan is a dynamic preacher for the youth. June 2-6, 2003 Dan Parker, Lakeland, FL Romans, Richard G. Stewardship/Personal Finance & Steven Hughes from Kissimmee, FL on small business management. Aug 4-8, 2003, Don Hunt on Unfolded Plan of God/David Hull on Preaching Christ in the O.T. Nov. 2003, either Lee Mason or Harry Stevenson on topics to be announced.
Another request, Dr. Steven Hooks from Atlanta Christian College has his teams go throughout to world to teach 4 day seminars at their own expense, but they request 10 students who can function on the college level to make it feasible for them. I cannot at this time guarantee this at JCC but could you utilize this resource for your preacher’s retreat? They have tremendous resources and they need to be plugged in somewhere in Jamaica. Please advise.
An update: Thanks to each that have served in times past and are currently serving!
